The Academy of Arts & Knowledge is very excited to announce that this year we are able to offer a free before and after school program, which will be available to all AAK students! This program will serve as a safe and enriching environment for our students beyond the school day. It will have a planned structure and schedule that includes opportunities for homework help and academic support. We will continue to offer the same robust after school activities that we always have: drama, dance, Mad Science, music programs, and more.

With the implementation of this program, we hope to make it easier for families to attend our school. The goal is to extend our reach along with the unique opportunities we offer to families who otherwise are unable to access our school due to transportation or care obstacles. Find instructions here on how to register your AAK student.

Some highlights of the program:

  • Free to all enrolled students
  • Free breakfast for qualifying families
  • Takes place 7:00-8:10 AM and 3:20-5:30 PM
  • Homework help and academic support
  • Structured and safe environment

About the Instructor

Bonnie Brown has been teaching dance for more than 20 years. Her program emphasizes techniques such as jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical, and contemporary. Ms. Bonnie has performed with some of Northern Colorado’s premiere dance troupes, including the Colorado Dance Collective, Six Degrees Dance Collaboration, the UNC Sugar Bears, and the Edge Dance Team. She loves to share her passion for dance with her students as she watches them grow into more confident dancers. As the owner of Essence Dance, Ms. Bonnie’s choreography was chosen to be a part of “New Visions” dance showcase. As an Academy of Arts & Knowledge parent herself, Ms. Bonnie’s vision of bringing the excitement and creativity of dance to our community merges with the goals of our school.

Kids are already naturally gifted creators. They love to dive into our massive collections of LEGO. While they build elaborate objects, they explore fundamentals principles of engineering and physics. They also learn to collaborate and create without the fear of mistakes. The experience is joyful, and the impact long-lasting.

Mad Science Enrichment Programs Spark Imaginative Learning

Children will watch spectacular demonstrations, engage in hands-on activities, participate in inquiry-based discussions, and work on interesting take-home projects. All of this is enabled through the Mad Science Presents: Secret Agent Lab!

This exciting curriculum is held right at the school, so no transportation is needed!

  • Day: Thursdays
  • Time: 3:25-4:25 PM
  • Grades: K-5

Have you ever wondered how magicians pull rabbits from their hats? Or how some of your favorite movies were made? This innovative after school program from Mad Science will help students uncover the answers to these questions. They will discover secrets about the inner workings of some of their favorite things including toys, optical illusions, and more! Kids will discover why a compass always points North, and learn how prisms refract white light to create rainbows, even without rain! They will create their own own Curious Cube, and master the Chinese yo-yo. Students will be encouraged to make thoughtful connections between the scientific concepts presented in-class and their everyday lives.

Remember, it isn’t magic — it’s science!

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. I’ve been playing trumpet professionally since 1967. In my earlier days, I had the opportunity to play in bands that opened for Ike & Tina Turner, Tommy James & the Shondells, and Bobby Rydell. I also played trumpet on five different cruise lines in their show bands, including Holland America Costa, Chandris Fantasy Cruise Line, Commodore Cruise Line, and Sea Escape.
