IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

March 22, 2021

Dear AAK Families –

On Tuesday, March 9th, AAK’s Board of Directors voted to approve the Enhanced School Year model for the 2021-2022 school year.  We are excited to be able to increase our robust learning experiences for students by offering a more sustained instructional year.  Our Enhanced School Year will allow us to mitigate both the “summer slide” and “Covid slide” that we have seen in our students, while also preventing burnout for staff and students.  We will be finalizing the calendar this next week and will send it out.

In tandem with the Enhanced School Year Model, AAK will be offering optional programming during all out of school days (excluding holidays).  The cost for the program is listed below. We are currently seeking grant funding in order to offset the entire amount and make it free for all families, but we will not know until early fall if we are awarded those grants.  The amount for this program will not exceed the amounts listed below.

  • $0 for families qualifying for free lunch
  • $100/year for families qualifying for reduced lunch
  • $200/year for families that do not qualify for free/reduced lunch

This program will run on all out of school days from 7:00am-5:30pm and will offer additional enrichment opportunities aligned to the vision/mission and school’s program at AAK.  We are in the process of finalizing various community partnerships to help augment this program.  We will have an outline of what this programming will look like available this summer.  We will continue to offer free before and after school programming for all families on school days.

The Academy of Arts & Knowledge is very excited to announce that this year we are able to offer a free before and after school program, which will be available to all AAK students! This program will serve as a safe and enriching environment for our students beyond the school day. It will have a planned structure and schedule that includes opportunities for homework help and academic support. We will continue to offer the same robust after school activities that we always have: drama, dance, Mad Science, music programs, and more.

With the implementation of this program, we hope to make it easier for families to attend our school. The goal is to extend our reach along with the unique opportunities we offer to families who otherwise are unable to access our school due to transportation or care obstacles.

Some highlights of the program:

  • Free breakfast for qualifying families
  • Takes place 7:00-8:10 AM and 3:20-5:30 PM
